Things You Only Get In College
There are so many things that college kids get discounted or for free that you have to pay lots of money for in the real world. Because we want each and every person to take full advantage of all the wonderful things you can get before you get a job and pay ridiculous money for everything, we made a list of free or discounted stuff you can get.
STUDENT DISCOUNTS AT ALMOST ANY STORE EVER WITH A STUDENT ID
Whenever you are checking out at any store, ask if they offer a student discount. You would be surprised at how many stores have discounts and how many people don’t use it. Stores don't usually advertise if they have student discounts so be sure to ask if you can use it! We have noticed that for some of the stores you have to ask if you can use their student discount rather than asking if they have one. It seems weird, but I was once at a Vineyard Vines where I showed the cashier my student ID and asked for 15% off, and another girl at the register over asked if they had a student discount and they said no. The salesperson then informed me you must know about the discount. Always ask wherever you go because there is no hurt in asking, and trust me most people were poor college students at one point so they understand. GYM MEMBERSHIP
Chances are, your school has a big gym with free workout classes. Go to the gym now because when you become an adult, you will have to pay lots of money each week to avoid the gym. Plus it will be a lot more difficult to get into shape then, so you might as well start now while you are young.
CONCERTS AND EVENTS
Most student governments have fun things with free pizza, or they even have famous people come and do concerts for ridiculously cheap prices. If your school does this, don’t let the opportunity slip away. Real concerts cost hundreds of dollars for decent seats, but college concerts cost $5 and you can get there early and be in the front row.
FREE SHIRTS AND PIZZA
There are so many club open houses, career fairs, study abroad booths, and other random events. Go for the pizza, pens, and other free paraphernalia. I can’ tell you the last time I bought pens or shirts. You might even learn a thing or two about things your school offers.
TECH SUPPORT AND OTHER SERVICES
Most campuses have a place you can bring your computer if it’s acting up (about once a week for me), services that will act as AAA if your car is having trouble on campus, health services, or even free massages. The possibilities are endless, so look up what your campus does because most people don’t think to use these resources.
FINANCIAL AID AND ACADEMIC ADVISORS
Once you go into the real world, people don’t tell you how to manage your money or tell you what the best scheduling is...at least not for free. Let people who know what they are doing tell you how to plan for your future because there will come a time when you are the only one who can plan for your future, and you will be so lost.
CAREER SERVICES
People will tell you how to make resumes and go on job interviews. If you are lucky, they may even have a lead on an internship or job in your field of study. Real world adults need to figure this out on their own, but if you can get this done before you try to find a job, you will have an advantage over people who tried to figure everything out themselves.
MICROSOFT WORD AND OTHER COMPUTER PROGRAMS
This shit can cost hundreds of dollars. Most colleges are here to rescue you and have a free download with your ID number. Download it to your computer before you graduate, and now you will have it for life.
DISCOUNTED INSURANCE
Companies like Geico and All-State offer student discounts if you have a GPA above a 3.0 or if you are in an college honors program. Insurance is expensive, so if you can get a discount, do it.
